Reading
The children can read their school reading book, sharing book or a book they have at home. They can read aloud and practise echo and choral reading ( echo reading - you read aloud and they repeat back. Choral reading - you both read together).
Children can write a book review about the story. What was the title? Who was the author? What part was most interesting and why? Who was their favourite character and why? What do they think could happen next? If they could ask a character a question who would it be and what would they ask?
Children could draw their favourite part of the story and explain why it is their favourite part. They should remember to check for capital letters, full stops, conjunctions and use their phonics to help them spell unknown words.
Writing
The children could write a recount of a visit they have been on recently or something exciting that has happened. They need to remember to write in the past tense.
Write an acrostic poem (where the letters are written down the left hand side and the children start each sentence with those letters) using their name or a name of a friend or family member. Try and include adjectives to describe that person.
Think of 5 questions you have about our current topic in school. Remember to include question marks and start each question in a different way.
Watch Newsround (Watch Newsround - BBC Newsround) and write about something you found out. Remember to include vocabulary from the report.
Maths
Give the children 5 different numbers. How many number sentences can they make? Use all four operations - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Write about your daily events using times. Remember to use o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to.
Count coins! Ask an adult for some coins and see how much you have. You could write some number sentences or try and make the same amount in different ways.
Practise your times tables. We have been learning 2's, 3's, 5's and 10's.
Measure objects around the house. Record if they are longer or shorter than 1 metre. You could make a list of the longest objects to shortest.
